Apple is said to be testing 4 new iPad Pro models for a spring 2027 launch.
NineToFiveMac reported on Tuesday that Apple is testing 4 new iPad Pro models that keep the existing 11-inch and 13-inch display sizes. It is also separately preparing an overhaul of an entry-level MacBook Pro.
The iPad Pro models mentioned this time appear to focus on refreshing the lineup rather than changing screen sizes. All 4 models under test keep the current 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, and a spring 2027 launch is planned, the report said. That differs from earlier market speculation about a foldable iPad Pro. Those earlier expectations assumed an 18.8-inch large display, but the devices now being tested look closer to conventional successors that continue the existing lineup.
Attention is also returning to iPad Pro pricing and product positioning changes. Apple updated the iPad Pro lineup in October 2025 by applying the M5 chip. After that, the starting price of the 11-inch base model rose to $1,199 from $999, and the 13-inch model increased to $1,499 from $1,299. That has made it a point of interest whether the 2027 models will be limited to performance upgrades or include product strategy following the price increases.
On the MacBook Pro side, there is speculation that an entry-level model overhaul could come sooner. Apple is said to have finished refresh work on an entry-level MacBook Pro codenamed J804 "not days ago but months ago". The plan was to launch it this year with the current design but a new base M6 chip. The actual release window, however, appears to remain open through the first half of next year.
Signs of change are also being read in Apple’s silicon roadmap. Apple is said to be pushing a plan to introduce the M7 processor, the generation after M6, early in the first half of 2027. That would be a faster schedule than the usual transition pace. Apple is known to be considering this speed adjustment to support higher-level artificial intelligence tasks. Given intensifying competition over on-device AI features, it can be seen as a move to bring forward the chip replacement cycle to meet computing demand.
Variables still remain in the product roadmap. Apple’s current plans could be disrupted if memory and chip shortages persist. If supply conditions are shaken, the order or timing of iPad Pro and MacBook Pro launches could also be adjusted. If the schedule holds, 2027 is expected to be a very big year for Apple product launches. The 4 iPad Pro models under test and the redesigned entry-level MacBook Pro would add to other new-product plans already discussed, potentially expanding the scale of Apple’s 2027 product strategy.
Ultimately, the key point in this test information is that Apple is trying to update the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro at the same time while also accelerating its chip transition pace. The iPad Pro appears to place weight on refreshing the lineup while keeping screen sizes, while the MacBook Pro is positioned to respond by overhauling the entry-level model and pulling forward timing for M6 and M7 chip adoption. The actual release schedule is expected to be decided depending on supply-chain conditions and whether Apple adjusts its chip strategy.
