South Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee issued an alert to prevent user 피해 over overseas games that violated mandatory disclosure for probability-based items and are undergoing administrative sanctions procedures.
The committee said on Tuesday it recently confirmed through monitoring that the overseas game 'Swordsman from Hell' did not comply with the disclosure obligation for probability-based items and is proceeding with administrative sanctions procedures with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The game has been served by public notice through South Korea’s official electronic gazette.
The committee said it will restrict domestic distribution under relevant laws if the game company fails to comply with corrective orders even after the public notice period ends. If distribution is restricted, users may have difficulty playing the game normally or making payments, requiring special caution.
The committee also said it additionally identified circumstances suggesting the game appears to have used intellectual property, including characters from the well-known animation 'Demon Slayer', without authorization and passed the related information to the original copyright holder.
The committee said it will maintain close communication with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, app market operators and copyright holders, while pursuing measures against violating games and preventing user 피해 in parallel.
GRAC Chairman Tae-gun Seo (서태건) said, "GRAC is communicating closely with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, app market operators and copyright holders, and is pursuing the necessary measures against violating games and preventing user 피해 together." He added, "We will continue to strengthen monitoring of games that violate the disclosure obligation for probability-based items and will keep working to protect the rights and interests of game users and establish a sound order for game distribution."
