[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] The U.S. government has lifted export controls on Anthropic’s top AI models, foreign media including CNN reported on June 30 local time.
The reports said Anthropic said in a statement it had been notified by the Commerce Department that export controls on Claude Fable5 and Mistos5 had been lifted. Anthropic said it would begin restoring access from July 1 and would provide further updates soon.
The announcement came shortly after Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick posted on social media that export controls on Fable had been lifted. In a post on social media platform X (Twitter), Lutnick said he had worked closely with Anthropic over the past 2 weeks to analyze and approve Fable5. He said the step was aimed at ensuring consistency across the U.S. government and strengthening U.S. leadership in AI.
Fable is based on Mistos, Anthropic’s top model, but has added safeguards to reduce risks from public use.
