SK Telecom has won recognition for its research at a global computer vision conference with AI video compositing technology it jointly developed with a domestic research team.

SK Telecom said on Monday that a paper on its AI video compositing technology InsertAnywhere, co-researched with a team led by KAIST professor Jae-gul Ju, has been accepted to ECCV 2026. The conference will be held in Malmo, Sweden, from Sept. 8 to 12.

ECCV is considered one of the world’s top three computer vision conferences, along with CVPR and ICCV. Computer vision is a field of technology in which AI analyses images and video to recognise and understand objects, space and movement.

InsertAnywhere is a technology that naturally adds an image of an object that was not present at the time of filming to an existing video. It can be used to place a specific product in an advertising video or insert props, characters and brand elements into content after filming ends.

Existing video compositing technology had limitations in scenes where the camera moves or other objects obscure the inserted object, causing the object’s position and size to shake. There were also problems in which an object that should be obscured remained visible on screen, or surrounding shadows and reflections were not rendered naturally.

InsertAnywhere applies a "4D scene understanding" technology that reflects the passage of time in a video’s three-dimensional spatial structure. When a user designates where to place an object in a particular scene, AI automatically extends that location information to the entire video. It can stably maintain position and shape even when the camera moves or the inserted object is obscured by other objects. It also naturally generates shadows, reflections and lighting effects around the inserted object to produce results similar to real footage.

SKT said it has commercialised InsertAnywhere by applying it to its virtual product placement solution AdFlux. AdFlux is a solution that inserts specific images into existing video without a sense of incongruity, and the company has also completed patent applications for related technologies. The solution has been used in broadcast programmes including "Kkeutkkaji Ganda Dokbak Tour", "Uri Jigeum Manna" and "Bakjangdaeso-Bureumyeon Eonjedeun Call".

Yang Seung-ji (양승지), head of enterprise technology support at SKT, said, "The acceptance of the ECCV 2026 paper is an achievement that recognises SKT’s AI video compositing technology on the global stage." He added, "We will continue to advance high-quality AI video compositing technology that can be used in the advertising and media sectors."
