[Digital Today reporter Seok Dae-geon] A palm-sized gimbal body packs two lenses. Switching between a medium angle and a wide angle compresses what once required mounting a mirrorless camera on a gimbal into a single pocket device.

DJI on the 29th officially introduced its new camera, the Osmo Pocket 4P. Unlike the Pocket 3 and Pocket 4, which had a single lens, it has two lenses. Ahead of the launch, the reporter used the Vlog Combo for a week to focus on how the dual camera broadens shooting options and how much the combo setup helps in a one-person filming environment.

After a week with the Vlog Combo, the wider range enabled by the dual camera and the convenience added by the combo accessories came together throughout the experience. The combo includes the main unit, an auxiliary light, a grip, a portable pouch and FrameTap. Its one-hand size makes it natural to carry in a pocket and pull out to shoot when needed.

The key is the dual lenses. You can shoot while switching between a medium angle and a wide angle, replacing footage that previously required a gimbal-mounted mirrorless camera with a single device. DJI says tracking a distant subject with a long focal length strengthens the sense of perspective compression and changes the texture of the video, and in practice even the same scene felt clearly different simply by changing the angle of view.

DJI stressed the product is not aimed only at professional users. It said general users also want results such as blurred backgrounds for travel videos, but the barrier to entry has been high because they needed to use a gimbal and a mirrorless camera together. At the same time, it said it included the D-Log2 color curve for professional users to secure a wider adjustment range for 17-stop dynamic range shooting and post-production color grading. It aims to satisfy the different needs of both user groups with one product.

What became familiar first was switching between the two angles of view. In tight indoor spaces, using the wide angle to capture the space and, when emphasizing a person, using the medium angle to softly press down the background quickly became second nature. The background blur looked natural even without separate equipment.

There were concerns that the dual-lens structure could increase power consumption and heat. DJI said algorithm optimization secured battery life similar to the Pocket 4 even with two lenses. It was also apparent in use that the design does not use both lenses at the same time, and filming did not cut out due to heat even while shooting a day's worth at once. Gimbal stabilization also handled shake smoothly in scenes filmed while walking with the device in hand.

The most useful item in the combo was FrameTap. It is not a remote control that attaches to the camera but a standalone accessory, a point that needs to be noted first. It works while separated from the main unit, and its built-in display lets users check in real time what the camera is capturing. This allows remote framing, subject tracking, control of gimbal movement and starting or stopping recording. The screen is small, but it was sufficient for judging composition.

Its practical value shows in solo shoots. When the camera is fixed on a tripod and the shooter must step into the frame, having FrameTap or not changes the workflow itself. Previously, the process required repeatedly setting the frame, returning to position, checking the result, then going back to the camera to adjust. After a week, being able to adjust composition and tracking on the spot with the screen in hand eliminated that back-and-forth.

The convenience was significant in environments where the shooter needs to move in and out of the frame, such as filming a solo vlog, interviews or product shoots. The same applied when the person filming also needs to appear on screen, such as at gatherings with friends or family. From a distance, it was possible to change the tracking target or stop recording, loosening the assumption that someone must stay next to the camera. For solo creators, this could be a reason to choose the combo.

The auxiliary light included with the Vlog Combo was also useful in a one-person filming environment. In low-light situations such as indoors or around sunset, it could be used lightly to fill in the face, reducing the burden during mobile shoots where carrying separate lighting is cumbersome. Rather than each accessory being decisive on its own, the impression is that they are bundled around the main unit to reduce variables in shooting conditions. The reason to choose the Vlog Combo over the Standard Combo ultimately lies in this range of use.

DJI is also refining convenience features for after shooting. It said it has focused on expanding post-production tools for professional users to simplify the process, while emphasizing improved export speeds for general users. The app supports one-touch video creation, and the device supports exporting captured footage immediately to reduce intermediate hassles. DJI, which has focused on shooting, appears to be extending its reach into editing and exporting.

The Pocket series already holds a meaningful position in the market. DJI said the Pocket 3 has surpassed 10 million units in cumulative global sales, and that based on 2025 sales data, it exceeded total sales of the entire mirrorless camera market over the same period. Riding that momentum, the OP4P lowers the barrier to expert-level shooting for general users while also presenting professional creators with the option of video production capabilities packed into a pocket device. The key is how smoothly those two directions fit together in one device.

After a week of use, the balance was persuasive at least in helping general users improve results without special learning. Evaluation in the professional domain will require full post-production work using D-Log2, but it is clear the pocket camera has expanded the range it can handle by a step.
