The Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) said on June 29 it held a kickoff briefing at a conference hall in Seoul's Lotte Tower for new 2026 personal data research and development projects and will begin pushing ahead with new tasks for safe use of personal information in the artificial intelligence era.
KISA said it will pursue 11 new R&D projects this year across three areas: development of leading technologies for safe use of personal information, development of global personal information protection standards, and training of specialized personnel for personal information protection and use. It presented key tasks including deepfake suppression technology development and development of privacy-by-design standards for personal information protection in the AI era.
KISA said it plans to continuously review the progress of each project after the kickoff briefing and support collaboration among research institutions. It said it will manage the projects so that tangible research results can be produced in the field of personal information protection and use.
Lee Sang-joong (이상중), president of KISA, said, "To secure competitiveness in the AI era, it is essential to create an environment where the public can entrust their data with peace of mind." He added, "We will help strengthen national AI competitiveness by building a trust-based foundation where personal information protection and use are in balance."
