Encore, an AI and data company under SK Networks, said on Sunday it took part as South Korea’s representative in the ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 32 international standardisation meeting that handles standards in data management. The meeting was held in Stockholm, Sweden, for five days from June 15.

ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 32 is a specialist subcommittee on “data management and interchange” under ISO/IEC JTC 1, an information technology standardisation body jointly operated by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

Encore said about 40 representatives from international organisations and nine member countries, including the United States and China, attended the meeting.

Senior consultant Sung-jae Jung (정성재) of Encore’s ontology consulting team attended as head of the South Korean delegation. He discussed internationally led standards development under South Korea’s leadership and reflected domestic industry views in work to establish and revise international standards related to data management and metadata in the AI era.

Jung said international standardisation activities go beyond simple technical participation and acquiring related information technology, and are a process of leading the direction of global data technology. He said interest in data is intensifying due to the recent acceleration in the use of AI. Jung said participants from each country may also propose technical directions for their national technological interests. He said Encore will lead technology through continued activities and contribute to the direction of domestic technology.
