Wemade Max subsidiary Mad Engine is setting up a dedicated subculture team and starting development of a new title to target the global market. It aims to expand beyond massively multiplayer online role-playing games into the subculture genre and reposition itself as a comprehensive game developer.
Wemade Max said on Sunday that Mad Engine has officially launched a subculture development organisation, Mono Studio, and is stepping up development of a new project, Project MO.
Mono Studio is an organisation that Mad Engine expanded and reorganised into an independent structure from the MO TF task force formed last year to plan a new subculture title aimed at the global market. The task force completed internal verification of business viability, the scenario and competitiveness of core systems, and recently completed its transition to a studio structure.
With the launch, it is accelerating development of Project MO, its first new mobile collectible subculture role-playing game. The company plans to develop it as a next-generation male-oriented subculture title for global expansion, and aims to reveal it in 2027, using the Unity 3D engine to deliver high-quality visuals and a differentiated game experience.
Mad Engine is also recruiting Mono Studio staff to work on Project MO. It is hiring across roles via its official recruitment website, including programmers, combat planning, system planning, concept artists, animators, storyboard artists and effect designers.
Song Ha-geun (송하근), a producer at Mono Studio, said the studio was launched to concentrate subculture development capabilities in one place and introduce new intellectual property that can compete in the global market. He said it will present a differentiated subculture RPG in which characters, the world view and gameplay come together, with talent that will join the new challenge.
Mad Engine is a game company that has proven its development capabilities through the global hit Night Crows. It is preparing a range of new titles, including a follow-up based on the Night Crows IP in the second half of this year and the AAA-grade open-world action RPG Project TAL planned for release in the second half of next year.
