Ethereum holdings on exchanges fell to 14.5 million ETH, marking a record low.

On June 11, blockchain outlet Cryptopolitan reported that CryptoQuant data showed the amount of Ethereum remaining on exchanges had recently dropped to 14.5 million ETH.

The figure is interpreted as meaning there is that much less Ethereum that can immediately come onto the market for sale. Holdings on exchanges such as Binance or Coinbase typically have a relatively higher likelihood of being sold. By contrast, coins moved to corporate treasury wallets or staking contracts are effectively removed from market circulation. The original report described the record as meaning “the circulating supply that can move the price is at its thinnest.”

The decline in exchange balances steepened after July 2025. Exchange holdings, which stayed around 20 million ETH for most of 2024, fell sharply after July last year and have not recovered since. Over the same period, companies’ Ethereum treasury strategies also gained momentum.

The outlet said the exchange-holdings indicator alone cannot determine market direction. It only shows that coins left exchanges, and does not reveal exactly where the transferred amount ended up. Even so, it said it is notable that the period when large holders began locking Ethereum into their balance sheets over years overlaps with the timing of the drop in exchange balances.

The market can be summed up as weak demand occurring alongside shrinking supply. If demand does not revive, prices will not rise on thinner circulating supply alone. If buying returns, the situation could change. With less supply left on exchanges, new buy orders must pass through a thinner order book, and the same amount of capital can push prices up more sharply.

The outlet said the record is less a bottom signal than an indicator pointing to the possibility of increased volatility. Investor sentiment could worsen for an extended period, and corporate holders may be able to endure losses for a long time. Still, it said that when demand returns, the limited amount of Ethereum left between buyers and price revaluation is emerging as a key variable for the market ahead.
