The government will formulate an "Artificial Intelligence (AI) Basic Society Plan for All" within this year.
To that end, the National AI Strategy Committee and the Basic Society Committee held a joint workshop on June 9 at the National AI Strategy Committee meeting room in Seoul.
About 40 people attended, including Yoo Jae-yeon (유재연), head of the social division at the National AI Strategy Committee, Keum Min (금민), head of the AI technology expert committee at the Basic Society Committee, members of both committees and officials from the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
At the workshop, participants reviewed AI's impact across society, including labour, welfare, education and administration. They discussed measures to ensure universal access to AI benefits, narrow gaps and strengthen social safety nets. They also exchanged views on policy tasks such as AI-based innovation in public services and building sustainable democratic governance.
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to draw up the AI Basic Society Plan for All by the end of this year after gathering opinions from the general public, industry and relevant ministries, based on the workshop discussions.
The two committees plan to continue regular exchanges and joint discussions, and to keep identifying policy tasks related to an AI basic society and reflect them in government policy.
Yoo, the head of the AI Strategy Committee's social division, said a basic society in the AI era is a new social model in which all members of society share the benefits of technological development, beyond a simple concept of welfare. He said he would work with the Basic Society Committee to create practical policy tasks that people can feel.
