Spain’s authorities have blocked access to Polymarket and Kalshi in the country over suspected violations of gambling laws.

Cointelegraph reported on Monday that Spain’s gambling regulator DGOJ decided to bar Spanish users from accessing the two platforms until legal procedures involving them are completed.

DGOJ said the measure was preventive and expected the related procedures to be concluded within 3 to 4 months.

DGOJ said it viewed prediction markets, which bet on uncertain future outcomes, as games of chance in Spain and other European jurisdictions. It added that operating such markets in Spanish territory requires a separate administrative licence.

In the United States, controversy surrounding the two platforms is continuing.

The U.S. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has also launched an investigation into Kalshi and Polymarket. Chairman James Comer (제임스 코머) pointed to suspiciously timed trades on the platforms ahead of U.S. military action against Iran. The committee is examining whether some users profited by using inside information.
