South Korea's National Bio Innovation Committee has launched three councils to collect policy demand and on-the-ground views in the bio sector.
The committee formed a private council, a public research institution council and a data council and held their first meetings, it said on Monday.
The National Bio Innovation Committee is chaired by Prime Minister Kim Min-seok (김민석). The councils will include leading domestic bio associations and groups, public research institutions and related experts. Through the councils, the committee will gather policy demand and field views across the bio industry and link them to policy tasks and projects.
Meetings of the private council and the public research institution council were held on Monday in the committee's conference room. The private council shared industry trends including global bio industry trends and discussed tasks to improve systems. The public research institution council discussed ways to identify research and development cooperation tasks among institutions and ways to propose future agendas related to bio policy.
At an earlier meeting of the data council on May 19, participants discussed ways to strengthen the basis for collecting and using bio data held by the state and to expand it into research and development and artificial intelligence (AI) applications.
Won Hee-mok (원희목), vice chair of the National Bio Innovation Committee, said the launch of the three councils was an important first step to link the field and policy more closely. He said he would actively support efforts so voices from the field could lead to specific policies and projects.
