[Digital Today reporter Yoonseo Lee (이윤서)] Crypto payments and trading infrastructure firm MoonPay has been officially launched in the ChatGPT app menu, allowing users to buy cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), solana (SOL) and USDC directly within ChatGPT.

CoinPost, a blockchain media outlet, reported on May 25 that MoonPay introduced the launch as the first and only crypto onramp integrated into ChatGPT.

Users can search for MoonPay in the ChatGPT app menu, link an account and proceed with the purchase process. It supports more than 100 cryptocurrencies and over 30 blockchains.

The buying process is designed to fit a conversational flow. When users choose an asset, chain and purchase amount in the chat window, the relevant fields are auto-filled. Final payment confirmation takes place on MoonPay’s website checkout screen. Payment methods include credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and bank transfers.

The barrier to entry is lower for existing MoonPay account holders. Users who have already created an account and completed know-your-customer checks can continue purchases without signing up again. MoonPay put front and center that users can buy cryptocurrencies easily within ChatGPT.

The integration comes as part of an expansion of ChatGPT’s app directory, which OpenAI opened in December 2025. Crypto-related apps such as Kraken and OKX are currently listed in ChatGPT, but those services are largely focused on price checks or blockchain data. MoonPay is seeking to differentiate itself by enabling direct token purchases within chats.

The market is viewing the move as aligned with a shift in which artificial intelligence interfaces move beyond providing information and into actual transaction steps. As conversational AI expands beyond simple guidance into mediating transactions through “agentic commerce,” the case has been presented as one of the earliest to add crypto purchases.

The broader industry is also continuing efforts to lower barriers to buying cryptocurrencies. MoonPay’s integration with ChatGPT is meaningful in that it can connect purchase intent to the payment stage without moving to a separate exchange screen. Still, because the actual payment completion takes place on an external checkout screen, it can be seen as combining a conversational interface with existing payment infrastructure.

In this trend, the role of crypto services within the ChatGPT app ecosystem is also increasingly likely to expand. For now, buying is central, but attention is on whether a structure that links search, payment and execution in one flow within an AI conversational interface will spread in the future.
