Dunamu is supporting credit recovery for young people struggling with student loans and helping foster future information technology talent together with the Korea Scholarship Foundation.
Dunamu, which operates the digital asset exchange Upbit, said on Monday it donated a total of 7.51 billion won over the past five years in cooperation with the Korea Scholarship Foundation.
Dunamu signed a business agreement with the foundation in November 2021 for the Blue Lighthouse Dunamu donation scholarship project and placed 7 billion won in trust. It later provided an additional 450 million won in April 2023, securing total funding of 7.45 billion won.
The funds were used from 2022 to 2024 for a credit recovery support programme for young people in vulnerable groups. Under the programme, 7,317 people under 39 who had diligently repaid student loans received debt support of up to 2 million won per person.
Among them, 2,942 people had remaining debt of 2 million won or less and fully paid off their loans with Dunamu's support alone. Another 557 people fully repaid their remaining debt on their own, spurred by Dunamu's support. Including those, a total of 3,499 young people reduced their loan burden.
In addition to credit recovery support, digital learning devices worth 1 billion won were also provided to 1,250 vulnerable university students.
Yoon Sun-joo (윤선주), Dunamu's chief brand impact officer, said, "I hope this scholarship will become a meaningful stepping stone for the scholarship recipients." She added, "Dunamu will continue to work so that technology can bring positive change to society."
