[DigitalToday reporter Jinju Hong] British electric bicycle company Estarli has unveiled a new electric cargo bike, the Longtail 2.0, and significantly increased its carrying capacity. It targets multipurpose demand spanning family transport as well as grocery shopping, commuting and everyday logistics.

Mobility outlet BikeBiz reported on May 19 (local time) that Estarli increased the Longtail 2.0's maximum payload to 250 kg from 210 kg.

Estarli said the model is designed to comfortably carry up to 3 children, or 2 larger children. It also broadened its use case by considering heavy luggage and everyday cargo transport.

The bike's design has also been improved. The new model applies a low-step frame that reflects customer feedback, improving ease of mounting and dismounting. It is designed to be easy to handle in environments with frequent stops and starts, especially when carrying children or loads. The Family Pack comes standard with a child safety cage. An improved stand enhances stability during loading and unloading.

Beyond family convenience, its everyday cargo transport functions have been strengthened. Estarli added a new full-length folding pannier bag to expand storage space for grocery runs, commuting and general cargo hauling.

Estarli also unveiled a utility basket set for future release. It is designed to be mounted inside the family cage, allowing a quick switch from a family bicycle to an everyday logistics bicycle. It also provides attachment points to secure a harness for pet transport.

The drivetrain remains unchanged. It uses the Estarli Cycle Systems mid-drive motor and Enviolo gear system, supporting up to 110 Nm of torque. Estarli said it can maintain hill-climbing and cargo-carrying performance even at maximum load. With the long-range battery option, it provides an 820 Wh battery to handle long distances and heavy use.

Detailed specifications have also been improved. The front suspension fork enhances ride comfort and adds compatibility with a ring lock, while the mudguard structure, battery placement and rear configuration have been reinforced. The Enviolo hub applies a new freewheel and sprocket to improve durability.

Its security service is also maintained. The optional service, Estarli Cycle Security, is provided as a protection package that includes GPS tracking and support for recovery and replacement. It is aimed at users who use a bicycle as a daily means of transport or frequently carry high-value cargo.

Oliver Francis (올리버 프랜시스), Estarli's co-founder, said, "The existing Longtail model quickly expanded its foothold in the market, but it was not perfect." He said, "Over the past 2 years, we have carried out continuous improvements based on feedback from real customers and retailers." He added, "We focused on raising accessibility and usability while keeping price competitiveness."

The base model is priced at 2,995 pounds (about 6.04 million won). The Family Pack costs 3,255 pounds (about 6.56 million won), while the Family Pack Long Range, which includes the long-range battery, is 3,450 pounds (about 6.95 million won). Higher-spec versions, the Family Pack Loaded Cocoon and the Family Pack Loaded Panniers, sell for 3,695 pounds (about 7.45 million won) each. Estarli emphasised that it kept the base model price below 3,000 pounds despite the upgrade.

In the industry, some see the Longtail 2.0 as potentially intensifying competition in the electric cargo bike market as consumer demand grows for handling both family transport and everyday logistics.
