[DigitalToday reporter Seulgi Son] LG CNS said on May 18 it signed a memorandum of understanding with e-commerce company Kurly for a proof-of-concept (PoC) on humanoid robots and cooperation on logistics automation projects to advance smart logistics centres.
The signing ceremony was attended by Kurly vice president and COO Tae-young Heo (허태영), LG CNS Telecommunications and Distribution Service Division head Sang-gyun Park (박상균), and LG CNS Smart Logistics City Division head Jun-ho Lee (이준호), among other executives from the two companies.
Based on Kurly’s logistics infrastructure, the two companies will pursue on-site suitability verification for humanoid robots, development of logistics intelligence solutions and identification of new business opportunities.
The core project is a humanoid robot PoC to be carried out at Kurly logistics centres. The companies will identify logistics tasks where robots can reduce workers’ workload and improve stability. They will also verify the on-site suitability of LG CNS’ robot learning and operations platform, PhysicalWorks. They plan to measure and analyse robot work accuracy, execution speed and the level of efficiency improvements.
LG CNS will also pursue efficiency gains across the entire logistics process from receiving to storage, picking and shipping by integrating automation equipment and operating systems at Kurly logistics centres. LG CNS previously carried out projects to build Kurly’s Gimpo complex logistics centre and Changwon logistics centre, securing integrated operations technology covering ambient, chilled and frozen logistics as well as know-how for Saetbyeol delivery logistics.
Kurly vice president Tae-young Heo said he hopes to achieve logistics innovation by linking LG CNS’ advanced physical AI technology with Kurly’s on-site logistics data. LG CNS executive director Sang-gyun Park said a combination of Kurly’s logistics operations know-how and LG CNS’ technological capabilities will create meaningful synergy in logistics automation.
