Marc Benioff (마크 베니오프), CEO of Salesforce, expects to spend $300 million this year on the use of Anthropic tokens.
According to a recent Business Insider report, Benioff said on the All-In podcast released on May 15 that "AI coding agents are amazing. Anthropic is amazing." He added, "This year at Salesforce we will spend $300 million worth of Anthropic tokens for coding. It makes everything cheaper."
Tokens are units of information that users input and AI models process. AI companies charge users and large organisations based on token usage.
Benioff said on the podcast that AI agents have brought an "unprecedented" level of efficiency to Salesforce. He cited service, support, distribution and marketing as examples. Benioff previously announced in August last year that Salesforce cut support staff to 5,000 from 9,000 by adopting AI agents.
Benioff said Salesforce is developing technology to make coding easier in Slack, helped by productivity gains from coding agents. Salesforce acquired Slack in 2021. "We are building technology so anyone can code more easily within Slack. It is clear that a new era has opened in coding," he said.
Benioff said he expects to spend $300 million on Anthropic this year, but that not all tokens used by employees need to go to frontier models such as Anthropic's Claude. He said an "intermediate layer" will be needed to decide which inputs go to Anthropic and which go to smaller models.
