Finix, a payment solutions provider, unveiled a payment terminal aimed at unmanned stores.
Fintech outlet Finextra reported on May 14 that the product expands the company’s hardware lineup for unmanned and semi-unmanned stores and for customer self-ordering and payment environments.
The new terminal was released in line with growing demand for contactless self-service kiosks in retail and in the hotel and food service sectors. Finix said the product is an Android-based payment device that businesses across various industries can use. It said the screen operation is designed to be similar to a typical touch environment, and that the slim build and durability make it suitable for high-traffic sites.
Use cases include vending machines, parking and automated retail. Customers can complete payments without help from staff. It supports EMV chip, magnetic stripe and contactless payments. It can also accept mobile wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay. Finix co-founder and CEO Rich Serna (리치 세르나) said the goal is to make it easy to accept payments anywhere, whether staff are present or not.
Finix said it focused on providing a payment experience similar to a conventional checkout even in unmanned settings. Serna said customers expect the same fast and easy payment experience at kiosks as at existing checkout counters, and that the new terminal was designed to accommodate a wide range of options, from contactless tap payments to QR codes. It is also positioning the device around operational convenience and installation speed, rather than the terminal’s hardware performance itself.
The product comes with the Finix payment app preconfigured. Businesses can reduce the burden of separate initial setup and bring the terminal online quickly.
It also simplified device management. It provides a password-protected settings interface so businesses operating multiple terminals can easily control a fleet of devices.
The installation package is also configured for unmanned operation sites. It includes a 4G antenna, a power supply and mounting hardware. Finix said it focused on reducing on-site deployment steps by providing the components needed for professional installation as standard.
This launch can be seen as a move by Finix to expand its scope beyond payment software into on-site hardware. In retail and service sites where unmanned payments are expanding, businesses are demanding both broader payment support and easier operations. That has drawn attention to whether Finix will use the unmanned terminal to win merchants at kiosk and automated payment touchpoints.
