The Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) said on May 15 it granted AI trust certification (CAT) to the "artificial intelligence (AI) governance" system built by the Gyeonggi Provincial Government.
It is the first certification in South Korea under TTA's CAT scheme in the AI governance category. TTA applied ISO/IEC 38507:2022, an international standard on organisational AI adoption and use, as its review criteria.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government's AI governance aims to secure administrative efficiency and expand inclusive services for residents. With the governor as the final person responsible, it established an AI governance system to introduce and operate AI across administration and public services, including the Gyeonggi Province AI Committee (deliberation and advisory), the AI Bureau (overall management and coordination) and each office and bureau (implementation and application).
TTA conducted a detailed evaluation in line with certification criteria. It assessed the Gyeonggi Provincial Government's AI governance system with a focus on trust-related aspects such as AI ethics and safety. It divided the review into five core areas: decision-making, data use, organisational culture and values, compliance, and risk management.
TTA Chairman Seung-hyun Son (손승현) said, "Securing the trustworthiness of a governance system that manages and oversees AI technology has become key to public trust." He added, "We will spare no effort in providing support so that domestic public institutions and companies can build AI management systems that meet international standards."
