Korea Exchange held an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders and appointed new executive and outside directors.

Korea Exchange said on May 13 it held the meeting and appointed former Financial Supervisory Service deputy governor assistant Han Gu (한구) as an executive director.

Public interest outside directors included Shin Yong-sang (신용상), a senior research fellow at the Korea Institute of Finance, and Seok Won-hyeok (석원혁), former head of Smart Media Rep. Shin Hyun-han (신현한), a professor at Yonsei University’s School of Business, was named a public interest outside director who will serve on the audit committee.

The terms of the newly appointed executive director and outside directors are 3 years. The terms run from May 14 to May 13, 2029.

Han, the new executive director, was born in 1971. He graduated from Seoul National University with degrees in agricultural economics and business administration and earned an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University in the United States.

He has served as head of the Financial Supervisory Service secretariat, head of its general affairs bureau, head of its human resources development office and head of its Bank Inspection Bureau 2. From December 2024 to December 2025, he served as the Financial Supervisory Service’s deputy governor assistant in charge of small and mid-sized finance.

Shin, the new outside director, graduated from Yonsei University with a degree in economics. He earned a master’s degree in economics from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and a PhD in economics from Texas A&M University in the United States.

He currently serves as a senior research fellow in the capital markets division at the Korea Institute of Finance and as an adviser to the fiscal policy advisory committee at the Ministry of Planning and Budget.

Seok, the new outside director, graduated from Korea Aerospace University with a degree in information and communications engineering. He has served as head of MBC’s media strategy bureau, head of its digital division and president and CEO of Smart Media Rep.

Shin, a professor appointed as an outside director who will serve on the audit committee, graduated from Yonsei University with a degree in business administration. He earned a master’s degree in business administration and a PhD in financial management from Ohio State University in the United States. He currently serves as a professor at Yonsei University’s School of Business and as a private-sector chair of the Financial Services Commission’s Public Funds Management Committee.
