[Digital Today reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] SAP said on May 12 it will strengthen cooperation with Anthropic as part of its AI agent strategy at its annual Sapphire 2026 customer conference.

The Information reported the partnership centres on integrating the two companies’ products more deeply so SAP customers can more easily build agents using Anthropic’s Claude models.

Previously, customers had to develop software themselves to connect Claude to SAP applications and its Joule AI assistant.

The announcement comes shortly after SAP said in a policy document in late April it would block external agents such as OpenClaw from accessing data stored in SAP apps without SAP’s official approval.

SAP also introduced a bundled offering that combines several existing products customers use for application development, data management, and connecting agents and data as part of its agent strategy. An SAP spokesperson said the bundle is a recommendation, not a requirement, and customers can choose only the products they want.
