Samsung Securities said on May 12 it will launch a “foreigner integrated account” service with global online broker Interactive Brokers (IBKR) that allows foreign investors to trade South Korean stocks through local securities firms.
The foreigner integrated account is a scheme that supports overseas investors in trading domestic stocks through local brokers without opening accounts directly with South Korean securities firms.
Overseas stock investment by domestic investors has expanded rapidly, but foreign investors’ participation in South Korean stocks has faced relatively high barriers, including complex account-opening procedures.
The service was promoted in line with the government’s policy to improve access for foreign investors. The government has eased regulations by designating innovative financial services, regularising the system and revising related guidelines to encourage inflows of overseas funds using the foreigner integrated account.
IBKR is a global online broker listed on the Nasdaq in the United States. As of May 11, 2026, its market capitalisation was about 200 trillion won and it provides financial services in more than 170 markets worldwide.
A Samsung Securities official said cooperation with IBKR, a large global broker, has created an environment in which foreign investors can trade South Korean stocks easily and quickly.
