Woowa Brothers, operator of Baedal Minjok, is stepping up efforts to cooperate with restaurant owners.
Woowa Brothers said on May 10 it held the '2026 Woowa Scholarship Certificate Award Ceremony for Bosses' Children' at COEX in Seoul on May 9. It delivered 1.75 billion won in scholarships to 310 selected children of restaurant owners.
The 'Woowa Scholarship for Bosses' Children' is a scholarship programme for children of restaurant owners that began in 2022. It is operated through the Bong&Seol Initiative's 'Woowa Boss Care Fund' of 10 billion won, established by Woowa Brothers founder Kim Bong-jin (김봉진), former chairman, and his wife Seol Bo-mi, with Woowa Brothers adding donations each year.
The programme began from a philosophy of cooperation to support the future generation of restaurant-owner families, which are Baemin's core partners. Woowa Brothers recruited applicants for the 2026 programme in March and selected 310 scholarship recipients, the same as the previous year. It provides 3,000,000 won to high school students, 4,000,000 won to university students and 10,000,000 won to overseas graduate students as study support.
Recipients are selected from among high school, university and overseas graduate school children of restaurant owners operating a restaurant business as of the recruitment start date, from households at or below 130 percent of the median income.
Over 4 years since the programme began, 1,268 recipients received 7.25 billion won in scholarships. Including this year's support, 1,578 children of restaurant owners received 9.0 billion won in scholarships. Woowa Brothers said it was a representative case of cooperation in which Baemin has invested steadily for sustainable growth of the restaurant ecosystem beyond being a simple delivery platform.
In addition to the study support, recipients get capacity-building mentoring with direct participation from Woowa Brothers employees. Outstanding university recipients are offered overseas trips to broaden global perspectives.
Kim Joong-hyun (김중현), head of the Value Management Office at Woowa Brothers, said, "I hope the scholarship that supports families who have walked together with the restaurant industry will become a foundation connecting the growth of restaurant-owner families and their children." He said, "Woowa Brothers will continue to be a reliable partner for cooperation for restaurant owners."
