Kakao will receive the Korean National Police Agency’s latest crime data and swiftly block accounts suspected of phishing on its platforms as it moves to build a broad response system.

Kakao said it signed a business agreement with the Korean National Police Agency on Wednesday at the police agency’s integrated response unit meeting room to prevent 피해 and eradicate phishing crime. The agreement was 추진됐다 to jointly respond to increasingly sophisticated phishing crimes such as voice phishing and investment “leading rooms”.

Kakao will reflect the police agency’s information related to phishing crimes in its operating policies and user-protection processes. It plans to immediately apply measures to protect users when reports are received about accounts suspected of criminal activity.

It will also implement measures to block criminals’ access to its platforms. If the police agency shares with Kakao a list of “phone numbers used for crimes” that have been suspended based on reports and tips, Kakao will restrict use of accounts registered with those numbers to prevent further 피해. Separately, Kakao is also continuing cooperation with the Supreme Prosecutors' Office to prevent voice phishing crimes.

Oh Chang-bae (오창배), head of the Korean National Police Agency’s integrated response unit for telecommunications financial fraud, said, "With voice phishing and new scam crimes recently spreading via platforms, this agreement with Kakao will be a practical opportunity to protect our people from crime." He added, "To prevent phishing crimes, we will further strengthen public security cooperation partnerships with private companies going forward."

Cho Seok-young (조석영), Kakao’s compliance performance leader, said, "Kakao has continuously implemented various technical and policy measures to provide a safe platform use environment from phishing crimes." He added, "Going forward, through cooperation with the police agency, we plan to build an even faster and more advanced response system and continuously strengthen our user-protection capabilities."
