KakaoPay has marked the 10th anniversary of the launch of its easy remittance service.

KakaoPay said on Tuesday it released data from the past 10 years on its easy remittance service, showing cumulative transfers were tallied at 447 trillion won. Over the same period, the number of transfers topped 4.8 billion. Annual transfers rose to about 843.1 million in 2025 from about 2.65 million in 2016.

As of March 2026, average daily transfers stand at 2.3 million, with an average daily amount of about 240 billion won. A simple conversion suggests about 1,600 transfers are made per minute.

The average number of people a user sends money to rose to 9 in 2025 from 5 in 2016. Settlement requests made through the transfer service exceeded 100 million over 10 years.

Use of its "remittance envelope" also expanded. The number of uses over 10 years was tallied at 454.87 million. This is seen as a shift to digital from the practice of giving cash mainly during holidays and anniversaries.

With holiday usage also rising, the number of uses of the "Lunar New Year" remittance envelope during the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday period was 1.54 million, up about 339 percent from 2018.

It also estimated users saved about 1.5 trillion won in fees over the past 10 years through its free-transfer policy.

A KakaoPay official said, "The past 10 years were a process of reducing inconvenience in remittances and expanding everyday finance," adding, "We will continue to steadily advance our services based on user experience."
