Naver said on April 24 it has officially launched Multiplay, a feature on its Whale browser that lets users share tabs in real time while communicating by voice.

Existing video conferencing systems transmitted a specific presenter’s screen. Multiplay provides an environment where users open and browse internet pages as tabs they want to share.

It adopts real-time tab synchronisation beyond simple screen sharing. When the sharer opens a tab or moves to another site, the same page opens in real time in participating users’ browsers. Participants can directly control the shared tab to browse, or open additional tabs to share.

Multiplay uses a URL-sharing method. Even if a private page such as an email inbox is shared, the other party sees the sharer’s own account screen. Login pages are excluded from synchronisation to reduce concerns about exposing personal information.

Previously, Naver Whale introduced browser convenience features including a sidebar, capture, dual tab, quick search, mouse gestures and Papago translation.

Following another user makes a participant track that user’s tab movement and scroll position in real time. When attention needs to be focused, users can run the Spotlight function to request following in bulk. It supports Highlight, which emphasises a specific text area in colour, as well as voice calls and chat. Even if the Multiplay window is closed, the tab list and chat history are preserved.

For content that cannot be opened as a web browser tab, such as documents or external applications, it supports a separate screen-sharing function. When screen sharing is activated, the shared screen opens as a tab, allowing meetings to move between web materials and local documents.

Multiplay can be started from the browser toolbar or menu. Users invite others by sending a generated link. Spaces with no participating users or that are unused are automatically deleted.

Hyo Kim (김효), Naver Whale leader, said, "We focused on implementing on the browser the experience of working together in one space regardless of physical distance." He added, "You will be able to experience collaboration that invites people to a meeting with a single link, shares tabs and holds conversations."
