[Digital Today reporter Sangyeop Oh (오상엽)] South Korea’s KOSPI hit a record high on April 21, rising above 6,300. Foreign investors and institutions led gains with net buying.

The KOSPI closed up 169.38 points, or 2.72 percent, at 6,388.47. It opened at 6,302.54, up 83.45 points, or 1.34 percent, from the previous session and set a new 52-week high in intraday trade.

By investor type, individuals sold a net 1.9197 trillion won. Foreigners and institutions bought a net 1.3339 trillion won and 737.7 billion won, respectively.

Most top market-cap stocks rose. Samsung Electronics gained 2.10 percent to 219,000 won and SK Hynix rose 4.97 percent to 1,224,000 won. LG Energy Solution rose 11.42 percent, Hyundai Motor 3.61 percent, SK Square 2.43 percent, Doosan Enerbility 4.23 percent and Kia 1.65 percent.

Samsung Biologics fell 1.06 percent and Hanwha Aerospace dropped 2.39 percent.

The KOSDAQ closed up 4.18 points, or 0.36 percent, at 1,179.03.

In Seoul’s foreign exchange market, the won ended at 1,469.50 per dollar, up 2.80 won from the previous session.
