YouTube has added a feature to its mobile app that lets users play and share a video from a specific point. The Verge reported on April 17 that users can now choose where the scene they want starts and send the video link from a smartphone.

Instead, users will no longer be able to create new clips using the existing Clip feature. Clips that have already been created will remain available to watch.

YouTube said it will also not support setting an end point when sharing or adding a custom description. It said clipping remains an important way for creators to reach new viewers.

YouTube added that third-party tools and approved creator programmes offering advanced clipping features that can be used across multiple video platforms are already available. The Clip feature was first introduced in 2021.
