Amazon CEO Andy Jassy (앤디 재시) is considering ways to sell the company’s in-house AI chips to external companies, Bloomberg News reported on Thursday, citing a shareholder letter.

Jassy disclosed for the first time that annualised revenue at Amazon’s internal chip unit has now exceeded $20 billion. He said annualised revenue could reach $50 billion if the chips are sold to both AWS customers and external third parties. "Market demand for chips is very strong, and we are considering selling rack-level chips to external companies in the future," he said.

Amazon’s chip business provides three product lines: general-purpose computing chips, AI accelerators and specialised chips designed to improve server operating efficiency. Amazon has so far sold its chips only through its AWS cloud computing service.

Jassy compared changes in the AI chip market to the case of Graviton, the company’s own CPU chip launched in 2018.

Graviton has been adopted by 98 percent of the top 1,000 EC2 customers and improved price performance by up to 40 percent compared with x86 processors, AWS has emphasised. Jassy believes a similar trend is emerging in AI chips as well.

He said the second-generation AI training chip Trainium2 offers about 30 percent higher price performance than similar GPUs and is currently almost sold out. He added that Trainium3, which began shipments in early 2026, delivers a 30 to 40 percent performance improvement over Trainium2 and its subscription rate is nearly saturated. He also added that a significant portion of production capacity for Trainium4, about 18 months from its official launch, has already been reserved.
