[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] Visa has unveiled Intelligent Commerce Connect, a platform that lets AI agents make payments on behalf of consumers, Axios reported on Wednesday.

The platform supports AI agents processing payments across multiple card networks beyond the Visa network. Merchants can connect their product catalogues so AI agents can search them directly, enabling purchases without an existing checkout screen.

Intelligent Commerce Connect is currently in a pilot phase and is scheduled for an official launch in June.

Moves by companies seeking to support AI-based commerce across retail, technology and payments have also been accelerating in recent months.

Mastercard, which competes with Visa, is also working to build standards for AI-based commerce, and technology companies including Google and Shopify are stepping up efforts to spread common standards for AI shopping. That has raised questions over whether large merchants and platforms will adopt the system beyond early pilots, and how much consumers will trust autonomous payments by AI agents.
