The Ethereum Foundation doubled the amount of ether (ETH) it has put into staking in a single day, depositing a total of 47,050 ETH, The Block reported on Thursday, citing Arkham Intelligence data.
The total is more than two-thirds of the foundation’s target of 70,000 ETH, The Block said. The Ethereum Foundation has rapidly increased its staking amount in less than two weeks. After first depositing 2,016 ETH in February, it put in 22,517 ETH on Monday this week and added the same amount later that day. The staked amount is currently worth about $96.6 million.
The expansion is part of the Ethereum Foundation’s strategy to shift toward yield-bearing management from its previous approach of selling ETH holdings to fund operations.
The Ethereum Foundation said it would manage its large ETH holdings more actively as it overhauled its 2025 financial policy. It is also generating returns by allocating ETH to DeFi platforms alongside staking.
The Ethereum Foundation has frequently sold ETH to raise operating funds. In September last year, it sold 10,000 ETH for about $43 million to fund research and development, grants and donations. It also carried out private transactions with Ethereum treasury companies. Earlier this month, it sold 5,000 ETH to Bitmine Immersion Technologies for about $10 million, and in July last year it signed a 10,000 ETH deal with SharpLink Gaming.
