Bitdeer Technologies Group, a bitcoin (BTC) mining company, will develop Norway's largest artificial intelligence (AI) data centre.

On March 31 (local time), blockchain outlet CoinPost reported that Bitdeer announced its subsidiary Tidal Data Center (TDC) had signed a contract with Norway's Data Center Installations (DCI) to build an AI facility.

The project centres on developing and converting an existing TDC facility into a colocation AI data centre designed with operation of Nvidia's next-generation AI platform Vera Rubin in mind. DCI said it will build the facility for that purpose.

The target completion date is December 2026. Bitdeer said it expects the site to become Norway's largest operating AI data centre once completed and to rank among the largest in Europe by installed capacity. Total power capacity is expected to reach 180 megawatts (MW).

The company called the investment a core part of its global strategy. TDC Chairman and co-founder Haakon Brynni said, "Development and refurbishment of this facility is a key part of Bitdeer's global strategy to respond to explosive demand for AI data centres." He added, "Transforming our existing business base into a form that can deploy AI equipment allows us to continue growing with high capital efficiency."

Partner DCI also pointed to advantages in project management. DCI co-founder Bjoern Alve Olsen said, "Depending on the scale of the project and the way it is executed, it becomes easier to forecast costs and progress management and to control them precisely." DCI is a specialist contractor focused on data centre infrastructure and has been under Sweden-based HVAC, electrical and infrastructure company Sparc Group since 2025.

Bitdeer's shift toward AI is also reflected in its financing. Last month, Bitdeer sold all of its bitcoin holdings of about 1,132.9 BTC to fund data centre expansion. Chairman and CEO Jihan Wu (우 지한) said at the time, "The fact that current holdings are 0 does not mean it will be the same in the future," leaving open the possibility that it could hold bitcoin again.

The company is also continuing its cryptocurrency mining business. This month it unveiled its self-developed mining equipment, SEALMINER DL1 Air, which can mine multiple altcoins. It supports litecoin (LTC), dogecoin (DOGE) and pepe coin (PEPE), among others, and Bitdeer said it will provide high-quality and reliable products and services to miners worldwide.
