LGUplus employees introduce 'One LG' capabilities

LGUplus said on Monday it will unveil at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026, which opens on March 2 local time, a global top-level AI data centre (AIDC) strategy based on synergies with the LG Group.

LGUplus will strengthen its position as a key infrastructure provider in the AI era, centred on 'One LG' that brings together capabilities of LG affiliates. At MWC26, it will introduce the latest technologies and next-generation operating strategy to be applied to the Paju AI data centre being built as the largest in the Seoul metropolitan area.

The Paju AIDC, being built with a target completion in 2027, will mobilise group technologies across its operations, cooling and power systems, including from LGUplus, LG Electronics and LG Energy Solution.

For heat generation, a core challenge for AIDCs, LGUplus will work with LG Electronics. The two companies will attach dedicated metal plates to GPU chips and apply a D2C (Direct to Chip) liquid-cooling solution that circulates liquid through a coolant distribution unit (CDU) to remove heat directly. LGUplus' own verification found the method improved energy efficiency by about 24 percent versus existing air cooling.

Cooling water required for liquid cooling will be produced by LG Electronics' air-cooled Free Cooling Chiller. The company explained that because it makes cooling water with cold outside air, it can cut power consumption to about 10 percent of the existing level.

To ensure stable power supply, LGUplus will apply LG Energy Solution technology. It will install high-performance UPS batteries at the Paju AIDC to immediately correct power even during outages or voltage fluctuations. It will support uninterrupted operations by minimising the risk of fires and thermal runaway with a multi-layer safety structure designed in-house from battery cells to packs.

LGUplus plans to gradually expand AI computing infrastructure starting with the Paju AIDC. It is also accelerating development and application of immersion cooling technology that places servers directly into non-conductive liquid to efficiently manage heat as GPU performance advances.

On operations, it will apply across all areas an AI-based data centre infrastructure management system (DCIM) that it is developing. DCIM monitors power usage, temperature and humidity, cooling status and equipment abnormalities in real time, and serves as a brain that optimally allocates resources through AI analysis.

At MWC26, LGUplus will also unveil a Sovereign AI Appliance developed in collaboration with LG AI Research and FuriosaAI. It is a solution that allows immediate use of AI for work by connecting only power and a network, without separately building complex infrastructure.

Ahn Hyung-gyun (안형균), head of LGUplus' AI Business Group and a managing director, said, "Based on 'One LG' synergy, we will make the Paju AI data centre a global top-level hub."
