JPMorgan closed U.S. President Donald Trump's accounts after the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot, Cointelegraph reported on Sunday.

Dan Wilkening (댄 윌케닝), a former chief administrative officer at JPMorgan, said in court filings that in February 2021 the bank notified Trump's side it would close certain accounts. It was the first time JPMorgan has officially acknowledged terminating Trump's accounts.

Trump filed a $5 billion damages lawsuit, saying JPMorgan closed his accounts for political reasons. Trump's legal team said the acknowledgment was decisive evidence supporting Trump's claim. JPMorgan spokesperson Trish Wexler (트리시 웩슬러) countered that the bank can close accounts in consideration of legal and regulatory risks, but not for political reasons.
