Naver said on March 26 it held a “joint roundtable” with Spotify executives at Spotify’s headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden, to discuss progress in their strategic partnership in South Korea.
The roundtable, held over March 25 and 26, was attended by Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon (최수연) and Spotify co-CEOs Alex Norstrom and Gustav Soderstrom. Working-level staff from both companies, including business development and marketing teams, also joined to review the scope of cooperation.
The companies shared the results of cooperation through Naver Plus Membership and navigation and discussed directions for advancing their entertainment partnership.
Naver said that, as of December, new Naver membership sign-ups among Generation Z rose 17 percent from the previous month, shortly after Spotify benefits were added to Naver Plus Membership in November last year.
The companies agreed to expand cooperation in areas including search, marketing and content. Naver’s social login service, “Naver ID Login,” has been applied to Spotify since March 19.
Spotify co-CEO Alex Norstrom said, “Korea is a market where a local creative ecosystem and global connectivity intersect.” He said the partnership with Naver is based on the idea that a global platform and a local ecosystem can come together to provide value to users and creators.
Naver CEO Choi said, “We confirmed a shared vision in terms of supporting creator growth and enhancing the user experience.” She said the companies will expand cooperation so domestic users can experience music and audio content by combining their services, platform capabilities and brands.
