[Digital Today reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] Prediction platform Polymarket has signed an official partnership with Major League Baseball (MLB), TechCrunch reported on March 19 local time.
Under the agreement, Polymarket can use MLB data and has secured the right to use the MLB logo on its products. It will also gain opportunities for brand exposure inside stadiums and promotion through digital channels.
On the same day, MLB signed a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The cooperation includes the CFTC, which oversees prediction market operations, and MLB sharing information related to baseball and prediction markets.
MLB has previously expressed concerns about the impact prediction markets could have on sports fans and stressed the need for regulation. TechCrunch reported that the partnership reflects those concerns and is a move to ensure fairness in prediction markets.
Polymarket was once barred from operating in the United States, but began a full-scale expansion after the CFTC eased regulations in September last year. It has since announced partnerships with Google, Palantir, Major League Soccer (MLS) and Major League Hockey (MLH).
