The KOSPI broke above 5,700 for the first time in intraday trade on Thursday shortly after the market opened, extending its rally.

The KOSPI opened at 5,696.89. As of 9:09 a.m., it stood at 5,718.52, up 41.27 points, or 0.73 percent, from the previous session, extending gains.

Retail investors were net buyers of 199.2 billion won, while foreigners were net sellers of 119.3 billion won and institutions were net sellers of 77.7 billion won. Flows showed retail buying supporting the market.

Among the top market-cap stocks, Samsung Electronics was at 189,600 won, down 400 won, or 0.21 percent, from the previous session. SK hynix was also down 0.62 percent at 888,500 won.

LG Energy Solution rose 0.50 percent, Samsung Biologics gained 0.76 percent, Doosan Enerbility added 0.41 percent and KB Financial rose 1.14 percent, while SK Square fell 1.41 percent and Kia slipped 0.18 percent.

At the same time, the Kosdaq was up 1.31 points, or 0.11 percent, at 1,162.02.
