[DigitalToday reporter Ho-jung Lee] Dragonfly said on Wednesday it released an official promotional video for its new FPS game 'Special Force Remaster' and began pre-orders through the global game platforms Steam and the Epic Games Store. It also opened an official website and a Naver official cafe to communicate with users.
Overall responsibility for the remaster project is held by Park Cheol-seung (박철승), an executive director who founded Dragonfly and is the original developer of Special Force. The company said it is focusing on improving visual quality through Unreal Engine while keeping the original's strengths, including fast gameplay, distinctive movement controls and gun recoil, with the original main producer leading development directly.
The promotional video shows battlefields rebuilt with the latest graphics for three signature maps that were widely popular in the original version: Desert Camp, Satellite and Nerve Gas. It also features newly appearing special forces soldiers with more detailed modelling, including Russia's Spetsnaz and the United States' DEVGRU.
Park said, "We prepared a version that can satisfy both existing and new users by inheriting the authenticity of Special Force while adding modern technology." He added, "A key goal of this remaster is to build a global e-sports system that users worldwide can enjoy together, beyond a simple graphics improvement."
'Special Force Remaster' will officially open service in South Korea on March 18. It plans to complete preparations for overseas service in the first half of the year and expand service to English-speaking regions in the second half.
Special Force, which has been in service for 22 years since its release in 2004, is Dragonfly's flagship game, with service in about 90 countries worldwide and 100 million cumulative users. Dragonfly's strategy with this remaster is to target both users in their 30s and 40s who retain nostalgia for the past and users in their 20s seeking the fun of a classic FPS.
