OpenAI will cooperate with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to supply AI products to the U.S. federal government, TechCrunch reported on March 17 local time. OpenAI has signed a contract with AWS and plans to provide its AI models to government agencies.
The cooperation is seen as a move by OpenAI to expand its influence in the U.S. government market, following its contract with the Pentagon to supply AI models to a military network. Rival Anthropic, meanwhile, has been in conflict over cooperation with the Defence Department. It was designated a supply chain risk company after maintaining its refusal to support large-scale surveillance and autonomous weapons development.
AWS is already working with Anthropic through its AI platform for corporate and government customers, Amazon Bedrock.
AWS is the largest cloud provider in the U.S. public sector. The contract will make it easier to deploy OpenAI products to government agencies.
