Stani Kulechov, founder of the Aave Protocol, extended an olive branch to AAVE token holders.

The Block reported on Thursday that as debate continues between Aave Labs and the Aave DAO over revenue distribution and brand ownership, Kulechov said he would share revenue generated outside the protocol with token holders.

In a post to the Aave community, he said Aave Labs is committed to sharing outside-protocol revenue with AAVE holders in light of recent discussions. He said alignment is important to both the team and token holders and that a formal proposal with a concrete structure will be presented.

The comments were a response to a governance dispute that surfaced after Aave Labs decided to collect front-end fees itself rather than the DAO. Aave Labs developed the Aave Protocol, but the DAO now takes overall responsibility for operations. Some token holders questioned the legitimacy of the revenue distribution, prompting the dispute.

Kulechov stressed that for Aave to grow over the long term it needs to embrace new models beyond cryptocurrencies, including real-world assets and lending to consumers and institutions. He added that the most efficient structure would be for teams with clear views to independently develop products on a permissionless Aave Protocol, while the protocol shares in the benefits through higher usage and revenue.

He also said he would seek an appropriate solution to the issue of ownership of brand-related intellectual property rights.
