Ryu Je-myeong (류제명), second vice minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, visited the Korea Internet & Security Agency’s Internet Incident Response Center (KISC) on Feb. 13 as the Lunar New Year holiday began. He checked the status of the cybersecurity response and encouraged staff on emergency duty.

The on-site inspection followed President Lee Jae-myung (이재명) asking at a Cabinet meeting on the 0th day that relevant ministries thoroughly establish safety measures ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday and thoroughly check emergency response systems in preparation for urgent situations.

The ministry and KISA will strengthen round-the-clock monitoring during the Lunar New Year holiday period for services closely tied to daily life, including shopping malls, travel, lodging, transportation and parcel delivery. They will maintain emergency contact networks with major security companies and telecom operators. They will support efforts to minimize damage for companies hit by security incidents through swift information sharing and emergency on-site dispatches.

Ryu said active 대응 is needed to cyber threats that are becoming more sophisticated based on AI. He stressed that this year the government will put an AI-based cyber threat detection system into full operation and will push in earnest to build an AI incident response system that can respond across the full life cycle of incidents.
