Krafton has pulled back the curtain on a new title based on author Lee Young-do’s fantasy novel 'The Bird That Drinks Tears'.
On Feb. 13, Krafton said it released the official trailer for its new title 'Project Windless' through Sony’s digital showcase 'State of Play'.
'Project Windless' is an open-world action role-playing game being developed by Krafton’s Montreal studio. It is set about 1,500 years before the novel’s timeline and depicts a vast world that blends Eastern and Western aesthetics.
The trailer features the mythical 'Hero King' of the 'Rekon', one of the novel’s four races. In the video, the Hero King wields two swords made of star iron and overwhelms the battlefield. It also visually realises creatures from the novel, including a giant sky-swimming being called 'Haneulchi'.
Development is led by Krafton’s Montreal studio, headed by chief executive Patrick Methe, in cooperation with the Pangyo headquarters team. It introduced 'mass technology' to create large-scale battlefields in which thousands of warriors and giant creatures clash in real time.
Patrick Methe (패트릭 메테), CEO of Krafton’s Montreal studio, said, "We aim to find the optimal balance between inheriting the depth of an intellectual property (IP) that has been loved for more than 20 years and the depth original fans expect, and the fun as a game that gamers will experience."
Krafton also released the first developer diary video on its official YouTube channel on the day, capturing the development team’s vision and production journey. 'Project Windless' is set to launch on console and PC platforms, but its release date has not been decided.
