What is the way for long-term investors to retire without selling XRP? (Image generated by ChatGPT)

[Digital Today reporter Jinju Hong] Jake Claver, CEO of Digital Ascension Group (DAG), recently appeared on The Paul Barron Show and shared views on long-term retirement strategies and asset management for XRP holders, drawing attention.

On Dec. 31, blockchain outlet The Crypto Basic reported that Claver first said perceptions of retirement are changing. He said more people are moving away from the model of working nonstop for decades before retiring, and are instead considering early retirement in their 40s or redesigning their lives. Paul Barron also mentioned that interest in early retirement has recently been rising among investors in their 40s.

Claver stressed the need to approach life in stages. He said the first 20 years should focus on avoiding major mistakes, and the next 20 years are a period to build wealth through careers, investment and entrepreneurship. He added that from the 40s, many people change direction and focus on reinvention based on financial freedom. He also said that in old age, giving back to society through mentoring and charitable activity becomes a more important goal than growing assets. He said this shift, combined with today’s financial environment, especially the growth of crypto assets, offers more options than in the past.

On asset allocation, Claver said diversification is key throughout life. He said younger investors can take relatively higher risk and focus on growth assets, but it is common to reduce risk with age and focus on capital preservation and stable cash flow.

Citing family office strategies used by the wealthy, he said it is typical to allocate 20 to 30 percent to low-risk assets such as cash and U.S. Treasuries, and another 20 to 30 percent to stocks. Real estate often accounts for 10 to 20 percent due to cash flow and tax benefits, he added. He also said business investment is used to generate income and as a tax-saving tool through depreciation.

He said crypto typically makes up a relatively small share of such portfolios, around 1 to 5 percent, but younger or more aggressive investors can raise that allocation. He compared assets to a tree and said the goal of diversification is to support the overall structure even if a particular branch shakes.

Asked how to hold XRP long term and use it as a retirement asset, Claver said structure and protection matter more than short-term returns. He mentioned XRP-centered income models offered by some platforms such as Flare, but said DAG focuses on education and legal structure design rather than recommending specific products.

He said Wyoming in particular offers a legal environment favorable to crypto holders. He said Wyoming is suitable for digital asset management because creditor protection is strong and regulations are clear, adding that DAG has supported the establishment of about 7,500 Wyoming-based LLCs to date.

Such LLCs can hold various digital assets including XRP, Stellar Lumens (XLM), Hedera (HBAR), Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), Polygon (MATIC) and Chainlink (LINK). Claver said he prefers a holding-company structure aimed at holding and protecting assets rather than a trading firm designed for short-term transactions. He said a trading firm finds it difficult to receive long-term capital gains benefits, while a holding company focuses on asset protection.

He stressed that in a properly designed LLC, even if a lawsuit occurs, creditors cannot directly seize assets. He said creditors can only exercise a charging order, meaning they cannot force the sale of or take crypto, effectively keeping an investor’s assets safely isolated in legal disputes.

Finally, Claver recommended a strategy linking an LLC with a residence-based living trust. He said if an investor transfers LLC ownership to a trust, assets can be smoothly inherited by beneficiaries without a complex and costly court probate process. He stressed, "Digital assets including XRP are not short-term speculative tools, but can become one pillar of long-term retirement assets if managed structurally."
