Block’s payments platform Cash App has introduced a “payment links” feature, making it possible to send money through DMs, TechCrunch reported on Feb. 11.
Users can choose a “share link” option instead of the existing transfer method to generate a hyperlink. They can attach it to text messages, emails and DMs to send a payment request. Clicking the link automatically fills in the requested amount, enabling payment. Cash App said it has made the feature usable for recurring and group payments as well.
The company said it developed the feature based on a survey of younger generations that reflected how payment requests often lead to multiple conversations.
Christine Anderson, Cash App’s head of P2P and network products, said, “Payment links make sending money more intuitive and reduce awkwardness in the request process.” She added, “We reflected feedback that existing notification methods can seem formal or aggressive, so users can make payment requests in a more natural way.”
