[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] The possibility has been raised that Apple could again delay an AI-based Siri upgrade.

Apple said when it announced Apple Intelligence in 2024 that it would revamp Siri as an AI voice assistant, but the schedule has continued to be delayed.

Bloomberg reported on Tuesday that the AI-based Siri was originally set for release in March alongside an iOS 26.4 update. Problems surfaced during internal testing, delaying some features to May. In the worst case, full AI integration could be pushed back until September, when iOS 27 is released, the report said.

Apple appears to be seeking to upgrade Siri into a voice assistant based on large language models such as ChatGPT or Claude. The goal is to let users talk naturally with Siri on an iPhone or MacBook without launching a separate app. To do that, Apple plans to use Google's Gemini model. But as technical hurdles persist, there are signs inside Apple that further delays are unavoidable, Bloomberg said.
