Humax Mobility has built a mobility hub centre in Seongnam City equipped with an AI-based parking system. Humax Mobility said on Tuesday it has completed the 1,931-square-metre centre inside Seongnam Sports Complex and will start integrated mobility services.

The company signed a business agreement last June with Seongnam City, SK M&Service and Autonomous A2Z for a Seongnam mobility specialised city development project. The project, led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, was 추진됐다 to narrow transport gaps between regions and improve mobility convenience for residents by introducing future mobility technologies.

Under the project, Humax Mobility commercialised its in-house 'Ai-PAS' system for an outdoor parking lot for the first time. Using AI video analysis, a single camera can track real-time parking status for up to 12 spaces. Its licence plate recognition rate is more than 99.9 percent.

If autonomous vehicles are introduced, real-time data linkage between vehicles and the parking system would allow services to expand to include unmanned valet parking and optimal route guidance. The company said it optimised the system based on data from about 1,400 parking lots operated by its subsidiary Hi Parking, and it also supports expanded functions such as fire detection and security monitoring alongside real-time all-around surveillance.

The mobility hub centre has 45 parking spaces. Of those, 10 are operated as a dedicated car-sharing zone. Vehicles for the one-way service operated by its subsidiary PeopleCar, called Turu Car, are deployed, and the site functions as a new base for one-way car sharing in Seongnam. Residents can rent a vehicle there and return it anywhere in Seongnam or the wider Seoul metropolitan area.

Jung Sung-min (정성민), chief executive of Humax Mobility, said, "The mobility hub centre is not simply a parking lot but a future-oriented transport base that combines AI technology and a range of mobility services to prepare for the era of autonomous driving." He said, "In line with Seongnam City's vision of developing a mobility specialised city, we will contribute to improving residents' mobility convenience."
