The U.S. Justice Department is investigating signs Iran used Binance to bypass U.S. economic sanctions, Cointelegraph reported on Tuesday, citing the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
The WSJ, citing internal documents and sources, reported Iran may have used Binance to send funds to affiliated networks, including Yemen's Houthi rebels.
It was not clear whether the Justice Department probe targets Binance itself or only users. The Justice Department was reported to have contacted people with information on the transactions to conduct interviews and gather evidence. The investigation began after an internal report said $1 billion in funds flowed through Binance into Iran-linked networks, the WSJ reported.
