Databricks, a cloud-based data platform, has surpassed $5.4 billion in annualised revenue and highlighted AI’s role in the software-as-a-service (SaaS) market, TechCrunch reported on Feb. 9.

Ali Ghodsi (알리 고드시), CEO of Databricks, said AI is not replacing SaaS but is instead increasing usage. He said database use at Databricks is surging through its generative AI interface, Genie.

Addressing concerns that existing SaaS systems will be replaced by AI, Ghodsi said, "The key is not replacing systems of record, but shifting the user interface to natural language." Databricks has launched an AI-friendly database, Lakebase, and is accelerating its market expansion.

Ghodsi said, "Lakebase is growing twice as fast as existing data warehouses," underscoring its SaaS strategy for the AI era.
