LG Uplus said on March 10 it won the 'Carbon Management Honors Club' award in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) assessment, the only telecom company in South Korea to receive the honor.

CDP, a global assessment on environmental information disclosure billed as the world’s largest of its kind, collects environmental management information from about 24,000 companies worldwide, including efforts to respond to climate change and data on greenhouse gas emissions and reduction results. It evaluates companies based on a range of criteria including governance, risk and management.

The Carbon Management Honors Club award is given only to the top 5 companies in South Korea. LG Uplus has won the award for a second straight year and, as it did last year, received the top Leadership A grade.

LG Uplus said winning was helped by building trust in its greenhouse gas reduction targets through obtaining Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) approval and calculating and verifying its consolidated greenhouse gas emissions. It also issued a climate-related disclosure report aligned with the Korea Sustainability Standards Board (KSSB) standards for a second straight year, analysing the financial impact of climate change, and received high marks for it.

Park Kyung-joong (박경중), executive director in charge of external cooperation at LG Uplus, said, "It is very meaningful to win the Carbon Management Honors Club, which is given only to the top 5 companies in the world-class ESG assessment CDP, for a second consecutive year." He added, "We will continue to carry out LG Uplus’ differentiated climate change response activities."
