South Korean game developer Needs Games said on Feb. 9 it has adopted Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to develop and operate its next-generation dark fantasy action RPG Dark December.
Needs Games said the move cut operating costs by 50 percent while improving game stability, and that it built a scalable technology foundation to support future innovation and continued growth.
The company said Needs Games built a game development and operations environment based on OCI Compute Virtual Machines, including a fully isolated network virtualisation architecture. It also moved its existing on-premises database environment to MySQL HeatWave.
Needs Games Chief Executive Myung-hoon Lim (임명훈) said, "To operate a large-scale online game reliably, infrastructure that provides consistent performance and efficient operating costs is necessary." He said OCI enabled the company to run a stable, high-performance game infrastructure at lower cost than other cloud services, allowing it to focus more on improving game quality and the user experience.
Oracle Korea Chief Executive Sung-ha Kim (김성하) said, "Game developers are facing complex challenges, including rising costs, increasing user expectations, and the need for fast and stable infrastructure." He said OCI provides the performance, security and cost efficiency needed to meet those demands, and that Needs Games will be able to strengthen global competitiveness and build a resilient, scalable platform to deliver a differentiated play experience to users worldwide.
